Our History

Our History at Wentworth Home

Founded in 1897 through the generosity of local philanthropist Arioch Wentworth and the charitable citizens of Dover, Wentworth Home is a non-profit, assisted living community with a long tradition of making residents feel safe and welcome.

With Mr. Wentworth’s philanthropic support as well as gifts from special events and local organizations like the Bachelor’s Club, Wentworth Home has expanded over the years to care for more and more residents. Our most recent addition was generously provided by Harry Gage, allowing for more resident rooms and a large activity space, which was named in his honor.

Today we remain a non-profit assisted living home that relies on both donations and nominal monthly fees—offering the highest quality care in our beautifully renovated Victorian household.

We also offer respite care and short-term stays upon request
